This is not an answer, but maybe it's a way to get to the answer. The key to learning anything is learning the "language" of the subject. I didn't learn those terms. (relating to algebra.)If you can define "direct variation" , tell me. If not, ask your teacher to explain it, then tell me. I really am interested in the answer to what they are asking. The information only tells you the distance and time for each of the two segments and the total distance and driving time for the trip. From that you can only determine that he drove the same average speed (60 mph) during both segments. And that is just the average speed. Depending on traffic, the speed might have varied between 3-85 mph.
