I'm not sure what you mean by States or Countries. "In 2019, about 539 million short tons (MMst) of coal were consumed in the United States. On an energy content basis, this amount was equal to about 11.3 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu) and to about 11% of total U.S. energy consumption.Jun 1, 2020" And less than 25% of our electric power is produced from coal. But this is as a country. I'm not sure what you mean by states and countries heating with coal. What are they heating? State run buildings? Federal Buildings? States and Countries are too large to heat. That's why we only heat buildings or pools or such, not vast areas. That would be inefficient.
