Advice required regarding mains smoke alarm?
Smoke alarm going off intermittently one loud chirp, turned mains off and took off lid, took back up battery out, but the damn thing is still chirping but more often now and not as loud, how can this thing be working without a power source? Please help it's 11pm here and I need to go to sleep.

Did you try replacing the battery? Its hard wired to your electrical system. If you disconnect the wires it will shut up, but you may need to have it reinstalled if you don't label the wires to help you properly reconnect it. Got any ear plugs? Don't leave it permanently disabled or it may nullify your insurance, or worse yet leave you criminally liable if you live in a multi dwelling unit. Yeah, its best just to keep a spare battery on hand for such occasions.

Creamcrackered Thanks Linda, it was the back up battery, it is mains connected, thought it weird that it keeps going when you disconnect from mains and take the battery out, the energy must still stay in the circuit.
