Anything which is on offer at half price.

Light bulbs I buy often. I have many under kitchen sink. A habit I have.

Toilet paper, I always say you can never have too much toilet paper. I mean it's not like it goes bad or gets stale, right? : )
-
-
Linda JoyRight! But if it accidentally gets wet its pretty much useless! I tried to put a wet roll in the microwave to dry it once and it started smoking! And while I don't discriminate against smoking toilet paper I was concerned that since it is paper after all it might catch fire!

Its been a long time. I had a thing for fountain pens and how easy they write without pressing.

Linda Joy
But if you do press they will rip the paper. I was only impressed with one pen. It wrote smoothly and I liked the way it glided over the paper and I looked for that brand after that. Now I can't remember the name. But after waiting tables and having customers EXPECT you to GIVE them your pen (supposedly to use it but is often not returned when they leave) - before they give you your tip, I started buying stick pens. I have bought gel pens for art, but I prefer to use markers.

Just about everything (one example is toothpaste - I probably have four unopened tubes right now). I really don't need that much, but I always worry I'll run out, so I buy more than I need. I don't let it go to waste, though.

Sounds like maybe you grew up poor. I do that too! But if I ran out of toothpaste I'd probably just use baking soda or salt. I don't remember buying toothpaste since the kids were young. It happens to be one of the many personal care items that are often given to poor people in hygiene kits. Last Christmas I got a ton of shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, body wash, and I can't tell you how many sponge poufs I've regifted! (although they can be used for drain screens in a pinch) But buying in bulk or even just buying ahead (as long as its not perishable) is a way to stay ahead of inflation. Especially if its food! It just keeps going up and up! -

Wow, that's impressive observational skills! -
Linda Joy
Not really. Just making conversation. But while I'd give your contention factor a 7.5 your witty smartass skills are lacking. -

Sorry, that wasn't supposed to be snarky. I was going to type more out than that and something distracted me. Yes, I did grow up poor, and I was impressed that you got that out of what I had said. Personally, I've never regifted anything, but I am a bit shy about accepting gifts in the first place. -
Linda Joy
Shit happens. I've done the same. Sorry I took it snarky. I used to be adamant about self sufficiency too before I got sick. And I do amazingly well on my measley $771 a month. God humbled me through homelessness while I was waiting the two years for my disability case to get to court. I also give more than I used to, mostly because others have given to me. I realized how good it feels to give even if the person doesn't need what I give, so now I graciously accept so they can feel good about it and I share my extra with anyone who needs it.

Guns & ammo. But then again, you can never have "plenty."

Its not money people will want when all hell breaks loose! That's why I learned to make alcohol! People are less likely to kill you for your things if you have no things, and much more likely to live if you have a skill they want to keep around. Guns and ammo are fairly shelf stable in the long run although ammo can be severely degraded if exposed to certain oils. -

Well, if you can't keep what you have, you're just collecting for someone else. -
Linda Joy
Is it all going to fit in your coffin? I don't collect I share. -
Archie Bunker
Well, if I can defend what I have, I won't be in a coffin. I won't be that guy that gives half his shit to Negan. -

So... you think you are immortal? -
Archie Bunker
I know I am. I'm a US Marine, sister. They haven't found my kryptonite yet. -

After 2, I'm still here! Looking for lucky number 3. -
Linda Joy
Looking? Still haven't learned your lesson yet? Kryptonite didn't kill him, just weakened him for a while. -

I'm not that good at making wine - I get too impatient and "test" it too often before it ages properly. Distilled spirits are more my cup of tea (as you UK folks might say). The sooner it's consumed, the better it is. I just can't make it myself due to legal ramifications (that doesn't mean the idea is completely off the table - just that I need to explore other avenues).
