I used rubbing compound or fine steel wool when i was young.

Get a plastic bag big enough to hold it. Soak it overnight in white vinegar. The rust will wipe off. Spray with WD-40. However, it will rust again pretty soon, so you really should buy new ones as soon as you can.

If they have minor rust, I spray them with WD-40. Then I will wipe off the rust. Followed by using this product called Weiman silver wipes for polishing.
