<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Security Through Anonymity
Chances are, any wireless router you connect to will be safe because of the small number of malicious hackers looking to compromise a connection or computer, in the Netherlands or anywhere else. As long as you don't use the connection to access sensitive accounts or divulge financial data, such as online banking or shopping, you run little risk.
On the Other: Easily Protect Yourself
There are a number of services that allow you to connect to the Internet through a virtual private network, or VPN, which encrypts any digital communication over the network from your machine. Many employers require that you connect to its servers over a VPN. You can also sign up for private VPN services in the Netherlands, Europe and beyond.
Bottom Line
If you are concerned about your connection being compromised, sign up for a private VPN. Such accounts can be had for only a few Euros or dollars per month, and are likely doubly secured by a randomly-generated VPN password key device. This will protect you and your computer over any connection, including wireless.
