  • Because people would rather live in denial. It's safer and more comfortable that way. Most people can't handle the truth
  • "The Truth? You can't handle the Truth!"
  • In my experience, people like that are ones who usually tend to be gullible, believe anything that anyone tells them. And, this seems to be especially true of people who are bigots. The truth contradicts their beliefs that are based on lies, rumors, stereotypes, etc. And when someone hates for no good reason, they don't like their "reasons" challenged.
  • By ignoring the truth perhaps they avoid dealing with it. So they get mad when it is verbalized since it forces them to acknowledge something they may be hiding from.
  • The truth often times makes people look at things in a way they prefer not to. Truth can be harsh and make them have to face things they would rather just ignore.
  • the truth interrupts their comfort zone that is artificially created with a house of lies.
  • Their "bliss" is being interrupted. ;)
  • Everbody thinks they know the truth but everybody can't be right, but they want to be so they get mad when someone tells them they are wrong.
  • PRIDE!!! Because you thought you were right this whole time, you were actually wrong. Mad at yourself for not seeking the truth.
  • Because your hiding something. What if they had pictures to prove it!Would that be truth!
  • Maybe you missunderstood.
  • Aha then the arguement continues and it's not the end yet.. People like to have the last say..even if it's all crap. ;0 Truth doesn't show who's right or wrong, clever or dumb. It's how we say it. When to say it. Why we need to say it. The words and tone are just as important as the facts to the person who is listening and the person who is saying it. We may know the facts but we may not be the right person to represent it.
  • I would say that the answers here have some very powerful nuggets of truth... We form our belief systems and feed off what we 'know', and it does develop into a nice, comfortable little social construct that we continually pad with more bits and pieces of 'truth' that are nothing more than opinion fed to us as fact. We are conditioned by society to accept the status quo and to accept what we're told without thinking. How then does the average person react 'critically' when their paradigm is challenged? For a start, it's discomforting, especially when you are confronted with the possibility that you may be 'wrong'. We may feel defensive when another person's truth threatens to crush ours, especially when that truth is being pushed on us and it doesn't agree with ours. Truth often brings with it a measure of responsibility and accountability - not to push religion here, but I think this is quite a good proverb in any situation: "If you were truly blind, you would be innocent. But because you claim you can see, that makes you all the more guilty." The problem is that most people want to be blind. It takes the responsibility off us, and allows us to simply live our lives comfortably in our little nest of 'truth'. Truth often means change: life has a certain inertia to it, and it takes quite a lot of effort to change. Effort causes discomfort. People don't like discomfort, and so the inertia of life will tend to resist the efforts to change direction. Truth often brings consequences: the revelation of a truth also reveals consequences for the falsehood. People don't like consequences - it often means more discomfort. Truth often means rectification: once we know the 'truth' we must often rectify the consequences of the false. Take, for example, the man on a frantic cholesterol reducing diet because he's discovered the 'truth' that his 'three pounds of beef a day' diet in the past has slowly been killing him. To find the real truth in situations often takes a lot of critical thinking - which requires research and examination and analysis - all of which require a lot of effort. There are people in the academic world who have devoted their lives to this endeavour, but the vast majority of us just can't be bothered... Worse than that, we are taught to be afraid of thinking critically. Why? Because if we think critically we may just reject the public pedagogy and mass media hysteria that's fed to us on a spoon, and begin to see the world for what it really is: a cesspit of selfishness and greed where the people in power get there and stay there by trampling down everyone else - that includes you and I. As for the quote: "You can't handle the truth!"... that's because we've been taught not to handle it. Just my thoughts.
  • Maybe 'cause the truth is not what they want to hear at the time.
  • The Truth hurts and they cant deal with it. They would rather bury their head in the sand, and believe everything is fine.
  • That usually only happens with folks who are trying to kid themselves or hide from something. The truth should never make someone mad!
  • truth always angers the untruthful...those who are 'self righteous' hates being shown their 'unright'ousness...very defensive, evasive ,and nasty ,right off....they spew venom the second they are angered....when someone cannot answer with a straightforward answer, they evade and immidiately start to give 'irrelavant' defensive EXCUSES to RIGHT themselves.... this is why I totally do not trust obama.....he will not answer...he is very arrogant when u try to get a starightforward answer....... he reminds me of self righteous idiots like, J Jackson,Al Sharp, and J Cockran, B Clinton...they are stupid, unreasonable people...they can only see their own 'reason' and unfortunately , the people of this world who lack the mental ability to REASON sensibly , JUMP RIGHT ON THE BOAT..... anger is a 'defensive' mode...self righteous and self centered.....they have THEIR TRUTH and cannot see TRUTH....
  • The TRUTH....They can't handle the truth!!!!! :o )
  • Sometimes reality really sux so they prefer to live in denial.
  • Because it's your truth and not necessarily theirs. Who is to say what the truth is anyways?
  • Because, this is not the answer they were seeking.
  • Because it hurts to be confronted. Some things you push away because you cannot cope with them. In some way they feel attacked by the truth and therefore get mad.
  • Sometimes the truth is hard, therefore sometimes it's easier to just avoid it altogether. +3
  • I don't know,it's weird, and takes some time to accept how it is so,I guess.I won't lie ti make you or anyone else feel better, and I often get Dred for it-LOL!I can comfort people with truths I honestly feel, and the love for them,to me,I feel,is honest.*+++++*
  • Truths to a degree discombobulates people from there comfort zone. The Cave analogy is a perfect example of this. Truths aren't as glamors as you've previously perceived it to be, so of course there has to be some sort of a reaction to it. I think its also a defense mechanism to feel threaten and to defend your position, regardless if its, territory, family, perception or self-perception. Why threatened ? because people speak truths with such arrogance, and condensation. Its ignorant and you wont convince anybody if you approach people in such manner. To get people to accept truths you approach people with love, sincerity, with an open mind, and not forcefully either. People don't seem to realize and understand the fundamentals as to why people get mad, and creates this misconception that people get mad at truths. its not that people get mad at it, its how you present them.
  • Firstly, having to revise you worldview to fit with a 'new' truth is work, and most people would rather not do it. Secondly, Your 'Truth' may contradict the truth as they know it. eg: If you go around telling people that it is vitally important that they snap their fingers twice a minute to keep the tigers away, most of them will consider you an intrusive lunatic, and try to get rid of you. No matter that YOU believe that what you are saying it 'The Truth'. And even after you point out evidence to them, such as the lack of nearby tigers because you snap your finger properly. regards JakobA
  • Because they don't like to be proven wrong and don't want to be caught or confronted.
  • it is bitter to digest.
  • because the truth hurts. People mistake it as being rude.
  • Truth can be hard to take especially if you strongly believe in something that "the truth" contradicts.
  • Some truth is questionable and some people's truth may not coincide with the other person's truth. Instead of getting mad, it would be a whole lot more interesting and fun if a diversity of ideas where exchanged.
  • You can't handle the truth!! (in my best Jack Nicholson)
  • because a lot of time the truth is worse and you know how you can always get that memory or feeling that just really hits at home and it hurts but that is why people hate me because I dont see the use in lying
  • People have trouble handling the truth + 5
  • Self protection
  • ... lack of wisdom ... and a willingness to cling to a comfortably believable untruth and resist anything that disturbs it ... __________ ... two of Buddha's best quotes ... "No one person can ever change the truth, but the truth, once learned, can and will change the person." "The hardest gift to give, yet the one most needed, is and will always be, wisdom." ... and one of Buddha's students returned after trying to teach, and asked Buddha, "Why is it that it is very easy to attractively package dung and sell lies expensively, yet it seems near impossible to give away freely the truth?"
  • Some people, some times, when some ones think they are speaking the truth. Others never do, some don't know a truth, don't agree with the truths of others, and or don't care about the truth. Maybe their idea of a truth does not agree with the other parties. Seems to be a lot of variables.
  • beacuse people live in fantasies. Living in fantasy is one of the character of human speices.
