The best way is to offer them a house built for them. It needs to have a precise sized entrance hole and be placed on the edge of open areas, like large open lawns or meadows. Fence posts are great places for bluebird houses. The house should be 5" x 5" square, 7 to 8 inches tall, a 1 1/2" entrance hole will cut down competition from other birds such as starlings. IT should be placed about 2" down from the top. Here's a great plan to make your own. http://members.tripod.com/~herper/nestboxplans.jpg And here's their main site about bluebirds. http://herper.tripod.com/index-3.html
