When you order food at an ethnic restaurant, do you try and pronounce the dish, or do you just point to it on the menu?

i usually hack and destroy the name with my bad pronounciation and then point at it all the while the waiter is on the floor clutching his ribs from laughing so hard. :)

I can usually try to pronounce most languages (if they are transliterated into English) with some accuracy, so I do try. It doesn't always mean I do well though. I'm still worried occasionally that I will get served the marinated washcloth with extra hot peppers.

Try and pronounce I am familiar with the pronunciations of most of the ethnic food I eat.

i start off trying to say it, usually stuff up and sound like a tool so end it by pointing it out

I pronounce it. I seem to be good at languages and pronounciations, even if I have never heard the language or seen or heard the word/s before

I'll try to pronounce it if I feel comfortable getting it close. One of my favorites, when prepared well, is Xiaolongbao.
